Review: Twilight Children: Three voices no one heard

Twilight Children: Three Voices No One Heard Until a Therapist Listened I finished reading shocking novel today, I picked it up based on recommendation from our local libray’s good reads. The novel Twilight Children: Three Voices No One Heard is written by Torey Haden who works with children in a hospital. This book is well written. Tony brings the stories of these unlucky children into the readers mind slowly by sharing the intimate details of their plight. I never read any child abuse articles. This is really shocking to me that such things do happen and how cruel the world is to these kids. I am especially saddened by the story of Cassandra. May she have a long fulfilled life. Drake’s story is really unfortunate. Somehow I relate the grandfather to someone in my own family. But the father seems really not concerned with him until the very end of the book. I am not sure how much author really know about him. Overall a good book.

SAN Certificates

Until recently I haven’t heard about these until a use case came up which required SAN certificates. Lets say you have a site that has DNS name mysite.com which uses SSL. You wanted to create another DNS name for your site myothersite.com. You do not want to create another instance of the site but wanted to bind to the existing site. This is where SAN certificates are useful. In this case you can obtain SSL cert that contains mysite.com as the subject and myothersite.com as the Subject Alternate Name. Neat!.

I will see my dreams come alive at last

Image
This is the opening song from Enterprise. It's been a long road Getting from there to here. It's been a long time but my time is finally near. And I will see my dreams come alive at last   I would touch the sky. and they're not gonna hold me down no more no they're not gonna change my mind. (CHORUS) Cause I've got faith of the heart, going where my heart will take me I've got faith to believe. I can do anything. I’ve got strength of the soul, No one's gonna bend or break me I can reach any star. I've got (4x), I've got faith - faith of the heart.

Happiness

Yesterday I watched TED talk given by Srikumar Rao: Plug into your hard-wired happiness . During this talk he described what happens when we just accept the world as it is. Examples of this acceptance without reservation are seeing grand canyon for the first time, watching mighty rivers flow by, witness beautiful rainbow and as ordinary as a raindrop on leaf. This line of thinking is along the same lines of philosopher J.K and age old Vedanta. Concentrate on doing your best and do not worry about the outcome. Setting some goals and doing your best and enjoying the process is the key.

Selling Your Idea

This is summary of selling the idea from “One Strategy” book. Define the problem you are solving :Have a crisp definition of the problem you are solving. Sometimes this is an end-user problem, sometimes this is an ongoing “fighting the code” architectural problem. Sometimes its enabling new hardware device. But overall if it takes too long to even explain the problem to people then its going to be a steep uphill climb from the very start. Educate yourself on possible alternatives: As you talk to people you will educate yourself on lots of alternatives. A good thing to do is stay focused on solving the problem, not stuck to implementing the specific solution you initially proposed. Describe your solution : Get good at describing your solution. Connect the problem and solution: Reinforce the connection between the problem and the proposed solution. Think end-to-end: When proposing a feature it is often the case that someone will think of the feature in the context wit...

Good 1:1 with Manager

I am currently reading Chapter7: Organization: What Managers Do, One of the topics in the chapter is about 1:1. What is the purpose of 1:1. What makes a good 1:1 with your manager. There was another article on this by a bog that I follow. Purpose of 1:1 Develop strong trust relationships with your staff and get to know them on personal level. Trust comes from mutual respect and understanding, which comes from knowing each other as human beings and nurturing relationship. You also need integrity, which is necessary for nearly everything of value. Manager and employee to reach a shared understanding of the work environment, project status, technical risks, new opportunities, morale and career development, and a time to share values. Running effective 1:1 One-on one time belongs to the employee. You should always be looking for opportunities to highlight critical decisions strategic and systems thinking change management communication style, a...
